Booking info and FAQs
-
Badge Cafe is a service provider offering pop-up, drop-in events – “crafty utopian hangouts” – that help people relax, create and connect by making unique badges out of old books and magazines.
-
No – you provide the location and we bring the convivial cafe vibes to you.
-
Yes, it’s a guided creative group activity, based around a table seating 6-12 people, hosted by one of our trained facilitators or “hosts”.
We call it a hangout rather than a workshop because it isn’t work and nothing’s for sale.
There’s no fixed schedule or timeframe: participants can drop in and out, spending five minutes or two hours, getting key instructions plus as much or as little support as they like.
-
Badge Cafe was created by Dr Ben Walters and comes out of his academic research into how participatory creative activities can act as “hope machines”, supporting wellbeing and pointing the way to better worlds.
-
We work across a wide range of sectors.
For underserved communities, we offer safer spaces for non-normative socialising and creativity.
For health and care services, we offer accessible, community-based activities supportive of preventive care, mental health and longterm conditions.
For education and young people’s services, we offer engaging, clearly structured activities with wide options for self-determined self-expression.
For corporate clients and conferences, we offer innovative forms of icebreaking, teambuilding, breakout space and idea generation.
For arts, cultural organisations and festivals, we offer dynamic, fun, participatory activities to complement more formal programming.
For archival and heritage settings, we offer accessible ways to open up the past in fun, hands-on, empowering ways.
For weddings and private events, we offer a chill, fun space to connect with others and create unique, personalised gifts and mementoes.
-
On average, one table with 12 seats can serve up to 20 people per hour. To engage more people at once, you can book two facilitators hosting a table each.
-
Hangouts run by the hour. Our most frequent booking is three hours but it’s all about what works for you.
-
You only need to provide tables and chairs in a “dinner party” style set-up. We bring everything else in a wheelie bag.
-
We’re based in London but have worked around the UK and internationally, including Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Amsterdam, New York and Chicago.
Travel within the M25 is included in our quotes. For work outside the M25, you’ll need to cover rail fare and accommodation as required.
-
No. We provide space for people to explore their own creativity on their own terms – we don’t make runs of badges from pre-existing designs.
-
We charge per session not per participant, and the amount varies depending on your requirements.
